Ndamukong Suh, the American football player, was born on January 6, 1987, in Portland, Oregon, where he attended Grant High School. He played football, basketball, and participated in track and field events and excelled greatly in all three sports. Suh played as a two-way lineman for the school’s football team and as a junior, he earned first-team All-PIL honors on both offense and defense in addition to being an honorable-mention All-state pick.

His playing abilities became even far better in his senior year and as a result of his productivity, he earned Parade magazine high school All-America honors, Portland Interscholastic League Defensive Player of the Year (2004) and a Class 4A first-team all-state selection.

Following a very impressive high school record, Rivals.com considered Suh a four-star recruit and the sixth defensive tackle in the United States. Consequently, he was sought after by many colleges but after some personal considerations, on January 20, 2005, he chose the University of Nebraska–Lincoln where he would play for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. During his senior year with the team, he won numerous awards and recognition, becoming one of the most decorated players in the history of football in the college.

He was drafted by the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL) as second overall in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Even though Ndamukong Suh is said to be one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL, he has had many issues since joining the league. His aggressive style of play has earned him criticisms from other players and also the NFL. He was fined a total of $255, 375 by the NFL in 2014 as a result of seven violations and he also missed two games due to suspension. The suspension cost him an additional $165, 294 from his pay.

A poll of his colleagues carried out by the Sporting News revealed that Suh is “the dirtiest player” in the NFL. In 2012, a Forbes-publicized Nielsen report also showed that he was the NFL’s “Least-Liked Player”.

He was selected to 4 Pro Bowls in his first five seasons, has been named an All-Pro 6 times, made it 4 times to the All-Pro First team and 2 times to the All-Pro Second team.

On March 11, 2015, Ndamukong Suh signed a six-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, worth $114 million, including $60 million guaranteed. This made him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. Sadly, he was released after three seasons after he committed two rough penalties that dragged the team down. He now plays for the Los Angeles Rams.

Ndamukong Suh is a product of an inter-continental union. His mother, Bernadette, is a Jamaican while his father, Michael Suh, is from Cameroon. Mrs. Suh, a graduate of Southern Oregon University, works as an elementary school teacher. Her husband, on the other hand, is a mechanical engineer and owns his own heating and cooling company in Portland. Ndamukong had planned to work in his father’s company before he discovered that he had a very bright future in professional football.

The football player seems to have gotten his athletic skills from his father who was a semi-professional soccer player in Germany, while also playing for his country’s national team and working as a machinic.
